Why he owns my heart: My favorite d-man in the entire world, Hammy. What can I say! He’s so soft spoken but has made such a great impact in Vancouver’s game. He is a very skilled defenseman, my personal favorite is the hip check. Him and Bieksa form one of my favorite lines to watch when they play on the ice, when both of them are playing you know something is going to go well. Off the ice Dan is just amazing, Dan ‘Community man’ Hamhuis. This man is generous and loving and just so genuinely kind. What really strikes me most is that when he became a free agent, he had 10 other teams besides Vancouver offer him new contracts that were higher in salary than what we were offering but he chose us because this is where he grew up, this is the team he’s been rooting for since he was a kid. Hammy is just perfect.

Name: Sidney Crosby
Team: Pittsburgh Penguins
Why he owns my heart: Sid the Kid. Sidney is “supposedly” one of the most overrated players in the league. There is so much hate out there for this kid it is ridiculous. I adore Sidney Crosby with all my heart. He has that leadership ability to lead the Penguins, there are players on the team much older than he is and players that are not that far off but they all look at this young man not as a superior or a inferior but as their Captain. Same for Sid, he doesn’t see them as inferior but he sees his teammates as equal. He’s one of the guys, he’s a twenty three year old kid, he’s supposed to be having fun and having the time of his life. Someone said somewhere that “Sidney Crosby is the heartbeat of the Penguins” It’s true. He pushes so hard, he’s not going down without a fight, this is his sport. He’s a young man growing up, learning from his mistakes but he still manages to be a 23 year old kid and manages to have one of the most infectious laughs in the world. The thing I love most about Sid is that hockey is really in his blood. This is what he loves to do. He is living his dream and he’s not going to let it go. He lives in the moment, he wants to win, hockey is his life. ‘Hockey is that thought inside your head saying, wouldn’t it be amazing, getting up everyday and playing and doing something that you loved to do.’

Name: Jannik Hansen
Team: Vancouver Canucks
Why he owns my heart: The Great Dane. Hansen is such an underrated player, it saddens me that he does not get that much attention. He was the first Danish person to ever play in an NHL playoff game and earn a point. In this 2010-2011 season Jannik was awarded something he very much deserves, the Fred J. Hume Award. The award recipient is described as “the Canucks unsung hero, the player who has made silent contributions all season long”. Jannik is our unsung hero and he does his part for our team and should definitely be recognized more.

Name: Jonathan Toews
Team: Chicago Blackhawks
Why he owns my heart: I cannot say enough about Tazar. There are no words to describe my adoration for him. He’s been captain of the Blackhawks for 3 years now, won the Stanley Cup, helped lead the Canadian Men’s Ice Hockey Team to gold at the 2010 Winter Olympic games, the youngest player to be a member of the Triple Gold Club and he is only at the age of 23. What does this say about his work ethic?! Jonathan Toews is a hard worker, you’d be lying if you said otherwise. He is just so impressive, he leads well, he keeps his cool and his composure and he’s there to work. He plays with a lot of passion, something I really admire about him. he puts his heart into every game and with each of failures he pushes harder and harder to learn from it. Not to mention, Captain Serious is just a tad too serious but that’s why I love him.

Team: Pittsburgh Penguins
Why he owns my heart: Staalsy, The Gronk. Jordan is a very talented two way player. He’s big, he’s strong and he’s fast. He has a lot of potential to improve but he is definitely doing well so far. He’s also just an adorable guy overall, he works hard and people will definitely see it if they can’t see it now.

Why he owns my heart: Kestroll. Ryan Kesler is definitely one of the funniest guys on the team, like Bieksa he’s so blunt and straight forward, I love that about him. He is such an amazing player to watch on the ice, when he is determined he puts 110% into it. He is a damn good leader, he leads by example and pushes others to do their best. He plays with passion and he can do great things. He doesn’t need to score goals to even be the MVP, he’s just that good.

Team:Pittsburgh Penguins
Why he owns my heart: Oh Flower! Fleury is an amazing goaltender. He was the youngest goaltender to join the NHL almost 8 years ago. The thing I love most about Flower is his sense of humor, this guy is hilarious, take the mocking of Carey Price for example. Heh.

Why he owns my heart: Oh Kaner! From your mullet to your partying ways you somehow managed to sneak into my heart. No doubt Patrick is a very talented young player, also said to be the start of rebirth of hockey in Chicago (alongside Toews). He is the youngest person in NHL history to score the Stanley Cup winning goal in OT (A title Bobby Orr once held) Also, I can’t forget the way he chews on his damn mouthguard, it’s an adorable habit but it really makes me want to rip it out of his mouth sometimes.

Why he owns my heart: I cannot even say enough about Talbo. He is just a wonderful player. He plays with heart,passion, and determination. He is just hardworking and just has that drive to play. I can’t put into words my adoration for him, any team would be lucky to have him. He’s got a great sense of humor and his bromance with Marc Andre Fleury makes me squeal in delight. But most of all, I love, love, love how much he loves playing for Pittsburgh (I’m tearing up right now) you can tell he wants to play for Pittsburgh for a long time. It’s so heartbreaking and great to see when a player just loves playing in a city so much. I will be crushed if they do not resign Max, he posses all these admirable traits in one person, he’s the perfect guy. He’s just great.

Team: Tampa Bay Lightning
Why he owns my heart: He is a hardworking player, I mean he is the third youngest player (behind Gretzky might I note) to be awarded the Rocket Richard Trophy. Stamkos was also the first to score 40 goals in the 2010-2011 season. He is just a hardworking, fantastic player overall.

Why he owns my heart: Juice is one of my favorite D-men. He is just such a badass. He is much more than just good for fights, his defensive play is aggressive and competitive. His partnership with old team mate Willie Mitchell was amazing and now him and Hamhuis together are just spectacular. You know there will be great plays the moment Bieksa and Hamhuis step on the ice. You can’t help but love Bieksa, he has a wonderful sense of humor and is just so blunt about everything. Shots, shots, shots!
